An Outstanding Math Teacher retires his chalk and duster
Mekelle:
During Gebre Giorgis' (popularly known as GG) decades of teaching mathematics at Atse Yohannes secondary school, mathematics "evolved into one of the school's strongest teaching areas, regularly placing its students in higher education," noted president of AYAA professor Halefom Belay.
Picture discription: GG relaxing with teacher Teame Gidey and Ato Tefera G/Meskel at Axum Hotel in Mekelle.
GG taught a range of courses in mathematics at all levels of mathematical skill acquisitions and advised and mentored numerous students. "In particular, his classes at Atse Yohannes achieved nearly legendary status and he has left his signature on everyone of his student's academic life including my own." Professor Halefom said.
On behalf of its members,
AYAA salutes GG for his personal conviction and his tireless lifetime commitments to his students. AYAA's members wish GG to have an enjoyable and happy many retirement years to come.
Successful March in Mekelle
Mekelle (Sunday, June 27th, 2004) - Atse Yohannes Alumni Association's (AYAA) awareness march concluded successfully with a big rally in Mekelle.
Hundreds of people marched from the main gates of the school through the main streets of Mekelle back to the school on Sunday, June 27th. This was the first March to be carefully planned and organized by AYAA's Board Members (see picture) of Mekelle, currently under the leadership of Ato Yemane Solomon and Weldekiros Asfaw. The March also focused on the needs, issues and concerns of all students, teachers, alumni and friends of the school.
This march demonstrated to the rest of the country that alumni and friends of the school are organized, united and committed to achieving the goals of AYAA in improving the teaching and learning environment of the school. It is also believed that the march would solidify the public profile of Atse Yohannes alumni and friends as the next emerging group to take up the mantle of furthering the educational process in the school, through the advocacy for quality education, for all students.
